Public transportation in Asia spans the entire spectrum of possibilities. In Japan, the train and subway systems are clean, efficient and sage. On the opposite side of the coin is Indonesia with its disorganized and barely existent transportation system.
Here are the highlights on each:
Japan – Home of the word fastest bullet train and trains so clean you can eat in the bathrooms, you should almost go to Japan just to see how public transportation should be. Vast public train system connecting all cities around the country. Each city has its own great local subway system and bus network.
Singapore – The MRT run by two companies: SMRT and SBS transit reaches most areas of the city and an excellent bus system fills in the blanks.
Hong Kong – The MTR has a number of lines which extend all over the city, but you need to take buses in between each neighborhood.
